How a job runs
From the first look at the roof to the last sweep up
Most people have not had a roof done before. This is the order it happens in.

We come and look
Ladders go up and we get on the roof itself, not a squint at it from the pavement. Photographs come back down with us, so you can see the cracked ridge or the slipped tile for yourself. The person who prices the job is the one doing the work later. Where getting up on the roof needs a second pair of hands, a labourer comes with us.

The price goes in writing
Written down, with what is in it: the strip, the timber, the underlay and battens, the tiles, the ridge and the verge, the skip and the scaffold where the job needs them. If a repair will do, we say so. Nobody needs a new roof because three tiles came off.

A date you agree to
Nothing is booked until you say yes, and you get 14 days to change your mind on work agreed at your own door. That is the law rather than our small print, and there is a page explaining it. Roofing moves with the weather, so a wet week can shift a date.

The work
The covering comes off in sections, so the house is never open longer than the day needs. If a rafter end or a batten has gone soft, you get shown it while the roof is still open, rather than told about it afterwards.

Cleared and swept
Old tiles, broken mortar and nails leave with us. Nails in a drive are how a roofer gets remembered, so the ground gets gone over before the ladders come down.

The parts of the job you never get to see
A finished roof looks much the same whoever laid it. What separates one from another is the timber, the underlay and the battens underneath, so those get photographed too.

01Stripped back
The old covering comes off and the timbers get looked at properly. Anything soft is cut out and replaced before a single new tile goes on.

02Timbers and underlay
Breathable underlay is run up the pitch and lapped, so any water that ever gets past a tile has somewhere to go.

03Battened out
New treated battens, gauged to the tile so every course sits at the right lap. This is the part nobody sees once the roof is finished.

04Finished
Tiles set, ridge closed, verges finished. The roof is left watertight and the site cleared.

Every photograph on this page is one of our own jobs. None of it is stock and none of it is bought in. It was taken on the roof, on a phone, most of it while the job was still open and there was something worth showing.
There are no badges on this site and no reviews, because we hold none. The photographs are what we have instead.
Areas covered
Surrey and Sussex, from the Downs to the coast
We work out of Surrey and go south through Sussex. Crawley, Brighton and Horsham are the towns we cover first, and most of what sits between them comes with them.
Roofs around here are not all one job. Older terraces run to slate on close boarding. Estate houses from the seventies are mostly concrete interlocking tile with the verges bedded in mortar, and that mortar is what cracks first.
